Keep hens and you've got a steady supply of something farmers have prized for centuries: a concentrated, fast-acting nitrogen fertilizer. It's far stronger than anything a grazing animal produces, which is exactly why you can't treat it the way you'd treat aged cow manure. Used raw, it'll burn plants and can carry pathogens.
